Why I Blog

Why should I blog? There are a lot of blogs out there. Why add one more? What’s the point? I’ve wrestled with this in my limited blogging journey.

For me, there’s 3 reasons why I’ve been blogging and will continue to…

1. It’s a way for me to process what God is teaching me. I’m a verbal processor… Although blogging is not verbal per say, it is similar in that when I’m forced to communicate something, it becomes more concrete in my mind. I understand a concept more fully when I’ve sat down and pushed it onto paper.

2. It is a way for me to document what God is teaching me. I love the idea of being able to look back through a blog or journal and see what I’ve learned. It is a way of disciplining myself to remember the lessons, in hopes that remembering will lead me to grow in wisdom and obedience.

3. It is a way for me to teach others what God is teaching me. The more that I’ve learned about myself over the years, the more I’ve realized that God has wired me to teach. I am passionate about communicating truth to others, and I also believe that God has gifted me to do so. Blogging is a way to teach.

  1. I love this! I think a lot of people feel that if they don’t gather a large audience, then blogging isn’t worth the time. Your blogging ideas define success, not by the number of RSS subscribers, comments, or retweets you have, but by the fact that it helps you grow and some others (few or many) benefit as well.

  2. Agreed 🙂 It definitely takes commitment, but I love being able to go back and see what God has taught me over the years and in different seasons, plus that opportunity to inspire others. Thanks Matt! I’m looking forward to having a look through your blog now that I know it exists 🙂

  3. […] a year ago, I wrote a post on why I blog. One of the reasons I stated was that a blog is a way to teach others what you’re learning. […]
