Reminder From The Road

As I write this, I’m residing in the wonderful state of Oklahoma, where the wind goes sweeping down the plains. We’re spending the week on different college campuses talking with students about working at Pine Cove next summer.

Recruiting is one of my favorite aspects of being on staff at PC. On top of getting to eat at awesome, local places (like the Coney I-Lander in Tulsa, OK), we get to sit down with college students and hear their stories.

Every year, I am convicted on recruiting trips. As I ask college students questions about their relationship with Jesus, it is like holding up a mirror to my own life. I’m not always proud of what I see.

One area that I’ve been convicted of in my time recruiting this year (and every year)  is the area of reading Scripture. As I ask college students how much they are in the Word, I’m keenly aware that there are days where I do not make time to be in Scripture. The truth is that on those days, I’m not valuing the Word of God as I should.

I’ve been reminded this year that how much you are in the Word says something… It is an indicator of spiritual discipline and spiritual intimacy. It is not the only indicator but the more that I talk with college students, the more I realize that often times it is the strongest indicator of where a person is at spiritually.

How much are you in the Word?

My challenge for you, and for me, is to be men and women who are passionate about the Word of God. If we really believe that Scripture is the very words of God, then knowing it, believing it, and living it out should be the passion and pursuit of our lives.

Reminded…
